Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr has been released on April 17. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS brings lot of improvements and new features. The most important one being long term support of 5 years ( till year 2019). LTS releases are very important for servers which need long term support and stable releases.
The best thing about Ubuntu Linux is that you can upgrade from previous releases without much hassle. Just two or three commands and within a few minutes you would be running the latest and stable release of Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr.
Upgrade Ubuntu 13.10 to Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr
Before you upgrade, its very important that you backup your data on the server. Perform a full backup so that you can restore in case anything breaks your system after the upgarde.
In order to view your current release, type the following command :-

Upgrade To Ubuntu 14.04 on a server
Update the packages. Use the command:-
Next, install update-manager-core package if it is not already installed. Use the following command :-
We are almost there. Just one more last command. Fire it up to upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 from Ubuntu 13.04.
It will start downloading the required packages and upgrading your server to Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr. At the end, it will reboot your system.
Verify that the upgrade is successful. Use the command to check your Ubuntu Version:-
It should now display Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr.
